I left the red roses at his temple in the Forum Romanum on the Ides of March, 2003. When Mary Harrsch and I went on the same date in 2005 to place the purple bouquet, we were surprised to find the red one still there.

Detail of a bronze statue of Caesar on Via Dei Fori Imperiali.

I placed a laurel wreath on the plinth. Feb 2007.

Reviews:

A student of ancient Rome:

Patricia Hunter brings to life the extraordinary characters involved in the Caesar drama  with a crisp and easily-read style.

A reader from Sydney, Australia:

Patricia Hunter's portrayal of the life of Caesar highlights his extraordinary talents and courage, and the complex interactions he had with the famous and infamous characters of his day. The story is enlivened by dialogue that gets straight to the point.

Prof.  F. Mench, Springfield, New Jersey: A good, clear presentation of Julius Caesar.

A reader from Ontario, Canada:

'Immortal Caesar' is an excellent read, well researched, very well written. The book is Roman history brought to life and a "must" for folks who want to immerse themselves in Caesar's fascinating story.

Mary Harrsch, Springfield, Oregon:

Well researched, and portrays the "human side" of one of the most famous figures in world history. Hunter's Caesar is an intellectually and physically mesmerizing individual whose charisma attracted both men and women to his political causes and produced support for his personal ambitions.

A reader from Sydney, Australia:

Anyone who wants to get a broad overview of Caesar's life and the characters involved in it should read this book. Caesar lives again in an easy-reading style presented in mostly dialogue form. Excellent!

Catherine M. Harding:

A very fast-paced tour de force covering the entirety of Caesar's very eventful life. In less than 250 pages, Ms Hunter manages to reveal more of the inner man than should be possible. Her Caesar is dynamic and brilliant - and therefore true to history - but he is also very human, with frailties and faults that ring true to modern readers. This is a wonderful read and an excellent introduction to Caesar the man.
